In conjunction with OneOf, the well-known e-commerce platform eBay has officially introduced its first collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
This inaugural series stars Canadian hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, widely regarded as the greatest player of all time.
Other such collections, according to eBay, are on the way.
eBay has just confirmed the launch of its first collection of non-fungible tokens, following its CEO’s announcement that cryptocurrencies would most certainly be accepted as a form of payment on its platform (NFTs).
This first series, called ” Genesis,” stars hockey prodigy Wayne Gretzky, who holds the majority of National Hockey League (NHL) records.
Throughout his 20-year career, the Canadian player has amassed 2,857 points, 894 of which have been scored as goals.
Many consider him to be the greatest hockey player of all time, earning him the nickname “The Great One.”
As a result, this set of NFTs depicts Gretzky in an animated manner, with poses inspired by the front pages of Sports Illustrated magazine.
The collection will be available in four categories of rarity: green (299 pieces), gold (199), platinum (99), and diamond (15 pieces).
At the time of writing, the diamond, platinum, and gold collections had all been sold for $1,500, $100, and $25, respectively.
While eBay declared to its 140 million customers in the second quarter of 2021 that its platform now enables the sale of NFTs, no technical solution for selling directly through the blockchain has been found.
Buyers of the Genesis Collection are provided a link to reclaim their NFT from an external wallet.
NFTs developed in collaboration with OneOf
This collection of NFTs was created in conjunction with OneOf, an eco-friendly platform dedicated to NFTs from the worlds of sport and music that allows fans to connect with their favorite sportsmen.
“I was grateful to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated forty years ago; it was a watershed moment in my life.”
I am thrilled to be able to provide this collectible experience to my hockey fans who have supported me for decades.
As a result of this agreement, the extremely big eBay community, which is present in over 190 countries worldwide, may be combined with OneOf’s ecological Web 3.0 technology, promising excellent NFTs through a platform with a global aura. As OneOf CEO Lin Dai put it: “It’s all about the user experience.”
“We’re thrilled to partner with eBay, the world’s largest and most trusted e-commerce platform, to introduce NFTs and the power of blockchain to the community of eBay enthusiasts through an experience dynamic and friendly. »
Unlike its typical minted (minted) drops on the French blockchain Tezos (XTZ), OneOf chose to build them on the Polygon (MATIC) sidechain, claiming that “the future is multichain “.
According to eBay, the Genesis collection is the company’s first move in selling NFTs, and other sports-related series is scheduled to be introduced soon.
