Netflix plans to ban cryptocurrencies from its ad-supported formula.

-

The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reported yesterday that Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) intends to prohibit cryptocurrency-related adverts from its cheap membership.

On Monday, the newspaper did in fact disclose that Netflix had agreed to forgo any political, gambling, and cryptocurrency-related advertising on its new membership. Aside from being prohibited, ads for medicinal items should also be limited, as well as those for children’s products.

Recall that Netflix said in July that it will provide a more affordable membership tier that includes advertisements in an effort to boost growth that is obviously stalling. Prior to Disney+’s debut of a comparable plan in December, the subscription should go on sale in November.

Be aware that crypto ad prohibitions are not new to the digital asset sector given the regulatory uncertainties.

It’s fascinating to observe that numerous IT juggernauts that previously forbade cryptocurrency advertisements now permit them.

For instance, in 2018 Meta, formerly Facebook (NASDAQ:META), prohibited cryptocurrency advertisements on its platform before reintroducing them later that year. The parent firm of Google, Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL), on the other hand, lifted a prohibition on cryptocurrency-related advertisements last year, enabling cryptocurrency exchanges and wallet operators to once again advertise their services on the search engine.
