OpenNode will Allow Stripe clients to convert payments into Bitcoin (BTC).

Stripe, the online payment service, will soon be able to convert payments received into Bitcoin thanks to its relationship with OpenNode (BTC). Because of the Lightning Network, this capability will be immediate and can be executed on some or all of the flows, depending on the merchant’s plan.

Stripe collaborates with OpenNode to make Bitcoin available to its merchants.

Stripe users will be able to convert payments they receive into Bitcoin (BTC) in the coming weeks, due to the inclusion of the OpenNode solution.

As a result, a trader will decide whether to alter a percentage or all of his incoming flows. This also applies to existing assets in the account.

This application, if created, will function automatically and instantaneously owing to Bitcoin’s layer 2 solution, the Lightning Network. Josh Held, OpenNode’s head of strategy, exemplifies this point:

“Bitcoin is the most widely adopted digital currency in the world, and we are excited to be working with Stripe to [make it] available to the platform’s many businesses. The app offers […] a simple and secure way to convert incoming payments to Bitcoin in real time, automatically or on demand. »

A cryptocurrency payment pioneer

Stripe surpassed all of its competitors in 2014 by allowing its users to accept Bitcoin. However, the corporation reversed course in 2018. It has since reopened to cryptocurrencies, initially by recruiting a team in the fall of 2021.

Last month, the firm announced a collaboration with Twitter that will allow the creation of a new place for content creators. This is a Super Follow feature for which members will pay in USDC via the Polygon (MATIC) blockchain.

For its part, OpenNode’s addition to Stripe provides a twofold benefit. On the one hand, retailers that are already changing a portion of their cash into cryptocurrency will save time, while on the other, simpler access may encourage new ones to take the leap. As a result, this is an extra democratization vector.

The Lightning Network has been gaining in popularity for some months, and more and more businesses are incorporating it into their services.
