NTT Docomo, which is partially owned by the government, wants to hasten the adoption of Web3 in Japan.

To speed up the adoption of Web3 in the nation, NTT Docomo, the largest mobile provider in Japan with over $40 billion in annual revenue, teamed with multichain smart contract platform Astar Network. The collaborative initiative will take the shape of a consortium, enabling both people and businesses to use tokens for governance.

Astar Network and NTT Docomo have also specifically committed to cooperate on three essentials, according to a press release from November 9.

The project’s goal, according to Astar Network CEO Sota Watanabe, is to make Web3 accessible to everyone outside of a select group of computer enthusiasts:

“In this context, more robust cases with excellent user experience on an infrastructure that is accessible to everyone is essential. It is about making a society where more people can truly enjoy the benefits of Web3, not just engineers.”

A increasing interest in Web3, cryptocurrency, and decentralized finance has recently been shown in Japan, which owns about one-third of Docomos’ shares (DeFi). The Digital Agency of Japan established a decentralized autonomous research group to examine Web3 on November 2. The second-largest port city in the nation, Fukuoka, teamed up with Aster Labs in late October to create fresh use cases for Web3 technology.

The country’s prime minister is very public about the government’s ambitions for significant investment in Web3 and metaverse efforts, despite the fact that the country still has very strict crypto legislation. The Japan Virtual and Crypto Assets Exchange Association has additionally committed to easing the screening procedure so that authorized exchanges can list digital currencies.
